DRC mines paid public companies $189.8M+ in royalties and key money between 2021-22
Public companies in the mining sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have, during the period between 2020 and 2021, received 189.8 million US dollars in royalties and key money, informs the report of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
According to this report, state-owned companies in the mining sector collected more than USD 122.4 million in royalties and bonuses in 2020.
These revenues will decrease significantly the following year, i.e. 2021, to settle at 67.2 million USD in royalties and key money.
During this period, Gecamines collected more income from royalties and key money to the tune of 180.6 million USD due to 117.7 million USD in 2020 and 62.9 million USD mobilized in 2020. Next year.
The same document indicates that the Industrial and Mining Development Company of Congo (SODEMICO), Cominière, SAKIMA and SOKIMO mobilized nearly 4 million USD in 2020 and 4.2 million USD in 2021.
According to this report, transfers of income in respect of taxes, fees, royalties, rights, in favor of the State at the central level and the provinces amount respectively to 42.78 million USD in 2020 and 44.67 million USD in 2021, i.e. a total of 87.45 million USD for the two fiscal years.
This document also informs that in 2021, SAKIMA proceeded to a total transfer of 5 operating permits (5 PE) (PE 2594, PE 2595, PE21, PE17 and PE76).
The first three were sold to KALIMA Mining Company and the other two to Congo Fair Mining, a joint venture owned by SAKIMA and CDMC. These rights were subsequently registered by the Mining Cadastre in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
